People’s notion that it is the role of gov’t to stimulate the economy. I for one am a big believer that it is the role of gov’t to stay the hell out of the way. Spending $900B+ of money we don’t have is not helpful.

so after a week of being sick adn midterming, i finally got out to run today. on the rare occassion that i trade free booze for working out, ive been treadmilling, but i decide to check out the NYU gym, because I heard they have a “track”
1. the track turned out to be on a roof. i sorta didnt get over that, for the whole run. very urban, very strange to be running by the tops of...

I would be really surprised if AT&T was forward thinking enough to do this.
“Would you switch to U-verse to get this kind of iPhone integration?” Yes, yes I would.
Lindsay Lohan Lashes Out at Sarah Palin →
Lindsay Lohan airs her crotch out enough for everyone to see, I’m certainly glad she finally aired her opinions on Sarah Palin for everyone to read. Lindsay evidently also still uses Myspace, so suffice it to say, I call her judgment into serious question.

i felt like a new yorker the last 2 days because people stopped and asked me for directions - and i could help them!
but my classmates were making fun of me on the way to booze cruise yesterday because apparently i conversed to 2 random strangers on the subway (irish tourist and a mom with a really cute baby). apparently that made it “blatantly obvious i wasn’t from nyc”

Internet at work
I am constantly amazed at how terribly slow the internet connection at my work is. I’m sure we pay a lot of money to some phone company for 5 9’s reliability and symmetric bandwidth, but it is ridiculously slow. How is it possible that in comparison, for $50 a month, my internet connection at home is 10x faster? Something is way whacked here. This speed difference also...

This just in, John Edwards is a scum bag.

Oh, well, that makes it *so* much better.
Overheard at optometry office
A little girl is looking at glasses, 45-ish female optician comes over to help.
Optician: Are you looking for new glasses?
Little Girl: Yes.
Optician: Is this your first pair?
Little Girl: No, I lost my glasses and need new ones.
Optician: Oh, that sucks.
That "sucks"? You have to be kidding me lady. If it's true it takes a village to raise a child, for the sake of this kid, I hope she finds a new village.

Rockin’ on the airwaves.
Poor taste.
I have finally identified my issue with many people who work in high tech (thanks to Ira Glass). They have poor taste. Simple as that.
This poor taste manifests in many and often subtle ways, resulting in bad decisions, poor designs, and ultimately lackluster products.
New Cars in California Must Display Global Warming... →
“The score takes into account emissions related to production of fuel for each vehicle as well as the direct emissions from vehicles.” My question here is, will the emissions of mining the metals used in a Prius’ battery pack be included in the “production of fuel” score? Because if it isn’t, this law is a complete crock.
Where the Linear Crosses the Exponential →
A great read to expand your mind on thinking about global warming, but more generally in thinking about how you weigh sacrifices/investments today versus payoff in the future (where future may be beyond your lifetime).

SCOTUS Strikes Down DC Gun Ban Law →
I was happy to see this ruling. I found the DC gun ban law to be ridiculous. You can argue the effectiveness of such a law in actually reducing gun violence (I happen to believe it doesn’t), but in my opinion you can’t argue it’s constitutional.
I’m no fan of guns, and would never have one in my home, but I don’t believe the government should be able to tell me...

High-technology brain drain takes heavy toll on... →
The money quote “As he and other experts explain it, the central problem is a breakdown in the most basic element of any big military project - accurately assessing at the outset whether the technological goals are attainable and affordable, then managing the engineering to ensure that hardware and software are properly designed, tested and integrated.”

Tell me again why anybody who is stuck in a bad mortgage deserves a bailout? And a bailout is exactly what this is. I don’t care if some shady loan officer and financial institution approved you for a loan that you could not afford. You’re not a “victim”, you’re a moron. Sure, in a perfect world there would have never been such lax lending practices, but...
